Let’s start our Scandinavian experience on remarkable traffic-less roads. We pass through the famous region of Telemark before our lunch stop and the discovery of one of the historical gems of Norway; the standing-wood churches called, the stavkirkes. These "stave" churches are magnificent and a few only survived the fire in the past 100 years. Back on your track on wind road along ponds and rivers.
We take the last Norwegian submarine tunnels and head to the famous Preikestolen rock also called “The Rock Pulpit”. It overlooks the fjord from more than 600 meters. The bravest will live their bikes for a midday hike and an unusual picnic with a astonish view over the fjord. Guaranteed sensations and breathtaking view. Return to the bikes and heading to our next destination, lost somewhere, deep middle of the fjords.
Departure for beautiful Bergen, a UNESCO heritage site, which nestles in the hollow of seven mountains. From 1350 to 1830, Bergen was one of the 4 Hanseatic centers in the north. The role of the city was to further trade in the Slavic world. We freely discover the city and its Bay Docks. If the sun is out, we do not miss the climb to Mount Fløyen for a refreshment, an ice cream.
We head to the heart of the Norwegian fjords. The Aurlandsfjord, Nærøyfjord and Lustrafjorden are the most photographed fjords in the world. Let’s see the fjords from the top, from the bottom and have lunch in an unexpected place. Back to the bikes for other majestic views, for a craft brewery or for the discovery of a railway story during the last century. Last stop in a small UNESCO World Heritage Site, before arriving at our accommodation, on the edge of the fjord.
Seeing Geiranger from the top, is amazing. We board for a one-and-a-half-hour cruise on the most spectacular fjords in the world. No road runs along it, and magnificent waterfalls rumbling down its cliffs that rise to more than 1,500 meters. Norway has exceptional roads; we will drive on two of the most beautiful ones. Have you heard about impressive Trollstigen and Eagle Road? Wonder and gorgeous views on more than 200 peaks overlooking the fjord will end this beautiful day.
To really enjoy pleasures and charm of Trondheim, like in Bergen, we making another break in this road trip. A large number of students makes Trondheim, the third largest city in the country, particularly dynamic. This city is the key places of cultural and artistic awakening in Norway. History, also, has left its mark on the heart of the city for a long time.
This morning we are taking one of the several scenic roads in the country. It passes through the county of Rondane in which one was created in 1962, the 1st Norwegian National Park. Remained virgin of any wild construction, it is home to herds of Eurasian elk and muskoxen. Do you dream of traveling through time? The Maihaugen museum in Lillehammer grants us this little fantasy. It is the largest museum of Norwegian arts and traditions. We end our evening in the heart of the Olympic city.
Until tomorrow evening, we can appreciate the insolence of this extraordinary and ever-changing European capital. At any time of the year Oslo lives to the rhythm of cultural, artistic, historical events and there is no doubt; this human scale city brings, to this fabulous road trip, its final touch. The Viking Museum will be closed until 2025 but do not miss the popular FRAM museum where Fridtjjof Nansen’s Arctic Expeditions boats is on display.
