Using the longest way, we head to our first medieval and typically Portuguese destination. The city of Obidos, whose cobblestones street and fortifications have remained authentic, is in a remarkable state of conservation. Let’s spend the rest of the day, like people lived in the middle ages.
Before reaching the little Portuguese Venice with its gondolas, we will have a stop at one of the oldest universities in Europe Founded at the end of the 13th century, it still welcomes students to this day and has a sumptuous baroque library.
We leave city life and driving to the north to one of the most beautiful castles in Portugal. It is called Guimarães castle and is looking like it was built only 100 years ago, as it is well preserved. Dom Henrique, future king of Portugal was born here in 1394. We end the day near the Gerês National Park.
Known for being the first wine area in Portugal, the Douro Valley has been a Unesco World Heritage Site since 2001. Some call it "the enchanting" so its beauty is amazing. Banks, hillsides and winding roads will probably turn into your crush of this road trip. Cruising on the Douro and tasting in the evening will enhance the end of this day.
We leave the mountainous area and head to the Aletenjo which has the most beautiful villages in the Portugal. Built on hillsides, on promontories and in the heart of fortress, they commonly dominate the surroundings. It’s in one of them we will spend the rest of the day and have accommodation.
In the heart of the Serra do Caldeirão, grow trees highly appreciated by the NASA, by artists but firstly by our Champagne winegrowers. One of the most beautiful roads in Portugal, called the 66 Portuguese Mother Road, takes us through cork oak crops, to our next stopover and to one relaxing day in the Algarve.
The far west of the Algarve has also full of fascinating views along the coastal. We stop for a little cruise to appreciate, very close, this wonderful steep coast. After lunch, we get back to the bike and head to the north.
Along the Tag, we enjoyed our last km and Returning our bikes during the morning. Until end of the next day, depending on our respective interests, we can strolling through the heart of Lisboa and freely surrender ourselves to joys and pleasures of the Portuguese capital.
